What Is Pro Nox Used For?

This innovative gas system is pneumatically-driven, user-controlled, and designed to deliver a 50/50 mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide to the user. This inhaled analgesia is able to effectively relieve pain, as well anxiety. It is intended for use in a medical setting, such as in-office cosmetic surgeries, dermal fillers, vein treatments, laser treatments, and other cosmetic treatments. In just a few inhalations, this medical gas mixture offers immediate relief to clients – at their own discretion.

It’s important to use that all of our clients feel comfortable, safe, and confident during their appointments with us. That’s why we’ve chosen to use this medical product, trusted by over 3,000 medical clinics in the United States, to help ease pain and anxiety in our clients. Studies have shown that this inhaled analgesia is an effective and non-addictive option for client comfort.

What Is Nitrous Oxide and Is It Safe?

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a naturally occurring gas and one of the oldest, most commonly used sedatives. It has been used to relieve pain during dental , orthodontic, and surgical procedures, as well as labor and childbirth. When inhaled, nitrous oxide acts as a weak general aesthetic. It is an excellent complement to the effects of local anesthetics such as lidocaine, though it is not in itself a replacement for anesthesia.

Is It the Same as Laughing Gas at the Dentist?

While this product uses the same ingredients as “laughing gas”, Pro Nox is not the same product. This inhaled analgesia uses a combination of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide, while the concentration of nitrous oxide used for dental and orthodontic procedures is generally closer to 70%. Additionally, when clients use the Pro Nox system, they are put in charge of administering the gas, and are therefore able to control their own dosage. When given a nitrous mask for oral health procedures, little to no control is given to the client over their dosage and amount administered.

Which Treatments Are Compatible With This Product?

We now have the ability to offer this inhaled analgesia with almost any treatment. This is an appropriate option for virtually any treatment that you may find painful or anxiety-inducing. Some people may elect to use this product to minimize discomfort during injectable treatments, skin resurfacing treatments, and even deeper chemical peels. It all depends on your needs. We would be happy to add this pain relief option to any of these treatments at our medical spa in Cartersville, GA.

If you are feeling apprehensive about ANY of our treatment options, feel free to ask us if Pro Nox is available during your initial consultation. Our team of experts will be able to help you decide if it’s an appropriate pain relief option for your intended treatment.

Why Use Inhaled Analgesia?

Comfort

At Reflections Medical Spa, we understand that comfort is subjective. While for most people, injectables are not painful treatments (some of our clients say they hardly feel them at all!), for your own reasons, you may find them unbearable. Or perhaps you have an aversion to needles and treatments involving needles, no matter how fine, cause you anxiety. This inhaled analgesia can provide you with quick, safe anxiety relief and relieve any discomfort or pain – at your discretion. Additionally, if you are drug adverse, nitrous oxide is a gentler option that may agree better with your system.

Convenience

Many of our treatments and surgeries require a form of topical anesthetic or an injected numbing product, such as lidocaine, Valium, and/or Vicodin. With this product, sometimes the need for injection numbing can be eliminated entirely. This makes the treatment process itself more comfortable and efficient for the recipient, as the appointment can begin immediately. Also, the provider will not need to stop the treatment to administer pain relief for any discomfort, as the client will be in charge of administering their own analgesia.

Control

Unlike other forms of analgesic, such as Vicodin (pain relief) or Valium (muscle relaxant), this product takes effect instantly and completely leaves the system within minutes. This is hugely beneficial over oral pain medication, which takes time to start working and take hours to leave the body. When relying on oral medication for pain relief, a driver is needed to pick up the client and drive them home. With this product, however, you’ll be alert and able to drive yourself home immediately after your treatment. This makes it an ideal addition to aesthetic treatments, which are typically quick and produce minimal discomfort.

Additionally, with this inhaled analgesia system, the control of the flow of nitrous oxide is put into your hands. Since no one is a better judge of your comfort and discomfort than you are, this allows your comfort level to be fully controlled by the best person for the job: you. Being able to control your own administration of nitrous oxide, paired with its short-lasting effects, allow you to respond to your pain and discomfort on your own terms. Now you can reap the benefits of an analgesic without disrupting the rest of your day.

How Does It Work?

This natural blend of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide is self-administered by the client through a pneumatically-driven valve inhalation system. During treatment, the client is in full control of how much nitrous oxide they require. To administer the nitrous oxide mixture, the client will hold and breath into a disposable mouthpiece and hose to deliver the gas. This system is designed to only deliver the medical gasses when the user breathes in.

If and when you need pain or anxiety relief, all you need to do is simply breathe through the mouthpiece until you reach your desired comfort level. You’ll stay aware of your surroundings as the analgesic takes effect instantly. It can be taken right before treatment, or you can wait until your treatment has begun to address discomfort as it arises. While inhaling nitrous oxide will dramatically reduce your pain and anxiety, it will also leave your system completely within a few minutes, so you don’t have to worry about any lasting side effects. It’s that simple to enjoy a relaxing, comfortable cosmetic treatment!

When Does It Take Effect?

The benefits of this blended nitrous oxide and pure oxygen mixture take effect within seconds of inhalation and last for a few minutes at a time. The nitrous oxide quickly enters your bloodstream to introduce pain and anxiety relief to your system. If you need to extend the effects, more of the mixture can be self-administered as needed.

How Long Does It Last?

After enough of the gas mixture has been administered from the mouthpiece to relieve your discomfort, you’ll need to take normal breaths to allow the nitrous oxide to move out of your system. Nitrous oxide gas does not bind with your hemoglobin, alter any cells, or leave any trace in the body, so returning to breathing normal air will allow it to exit your system completely. Typically, the effects of the nitrous oxide will wear off within 5 or 10 minutes. You’ll be able to drive before and after your appointment and return to your normal daily activities without experiencing any side effects.

Who Should Not Use This Product?

This inhaled analgesia is not appropriate for people with chronic fatigue, anemia, and/or a vitamin B12 deficiency. If you are in your first trimester of pregnancy, you will not be eligible to use this product. Additionally, you will not be eligible to use this product if you have any of the following conditions at the time of your appointment:

  • Nasal obstruction
